THANKS FOR DROPPING BY
I’m Peter Cairns. For more than three decades, I’ve worked as a conservation photographer, filmmaker and environmental communicator— writing and illustrating books and features, producing documentaries, and delivering talks, media interviews and educational workshops. In 2018, I co-founded the rewilding charity SCOTLAND: The Big Picture, serving as its Executive Director until 2025.

Over the years, I’ve spent time with many, many people who care deeply about nature—farmers, hunters, wildlife managers, scientists, students, policymakers, and many others in between. What I’ve come to believe is this: the speed and scale of nature recovery depends less on science and policy, and more on how we, as a society, think and feel about the landscapes around us and the species that share our space.

As a wave of ecological and political change sweeps across Europe, and public debate is increasingly shaped by polarised voices and tribal drum-banging, it feels more vital than ever to come together to explore new ways of living alongside wild nature. To share perspectives. To listen. And to find common ground.
I hope At the Edge becomes a welcoming space for that progressive conversation—one that informs, challenges and inspires a fundamental shift towards not only coexisting with nature, but co-prospering.
My best.

Peter Cairns.
